Comment Policy Additions

by Keiron on February 16, 2008

This is something I’ve done on occasion, but won’t be doing anymore after reading Michael Martine’s comments on it.. I completely see the point on his change to ban keywords in names for comments - I will be adopting this on all of my blogs and incorporating this into the comment policy in the next few days!

Why?
Mainly after getting a comment from “Teeth Whitener recently and not being sure whether to address them as Teeth, or Mr/Ms Whitener!

Do I need to say any more?

I wrote a plugin to block comment spam without resorting to captchas called WP Captcha-Free (Sorry for the shameless plug, I hope you dont take this as comment spam ;) ). It uses a combination of time based hash and ajax to block spam. I use it myself of both my blogs and now get zero spam from an earlier 40+ per day. You can check it out at http://wordpresssupplies.com/wordpress-plugins/captcha-free/

Hi,

Not at all (althought I did Google iDope in case it was a keyword I’d never heard of!?!).

Thank you for dropping by, I’ll certainly check it out. Although Akismet catches everything except the “Keyword Name” spam still!

Do you write a lot of plugins?

hehhe.. iDope sounds like a funny nick to me.

Akismet works okay for me but lets through couple of spam frequently (especially the ones without links). And I hate captchas, I don’t want to put one on my blog.

Anyways if you do use it, let me know what you think!

Forgot to answer your question… I have written two other plugins. You can see them here: http://wordpresssupplies.com/wordpress-plugins/

Thinking of writing another one that will check for plagiarism. Somewhat like Copyscape but as a WP plugin.

Now that sounds useful!

I finally got the plugin I wanted yesterday (someone else created it), it could do with a few minor improvements but I may contact the author and suggest them at some point!
